Megafon records RUB 63.4bn sales revenue in Q3 2011

Megafon, the second largest mobile telephony operator in Russia by number of subscribers, reported sales revenues of RUB 63.4bn (€1.58bn) in Q3 2011, resulting in a 10.2% increase on a yearly basis.
According to Serghei Soldatenkov, CEO of the operator, sales of mobile internet, which increased by 47.6% per annum in Q3 2011, as well as the 92.7% year-on-year growth of the revenues from the distribution of mobile handsets through the company’s own retail network, became key drivers of Megafon’s revenues growth in the third quarter.
The total number of active SIM cards served by the operator increased by 7.4% year-on-year, reaching 60.6 million at the end of September 2011. In June 2011, Megafon acquired
Net-by-Net, a provider of fixed line internet access service in Moscow, which led to 36.6% growth of the company’s sales in the fixed-line segment.
