2011-12-20
Tele2 Russia, a mobile telephony discounter, intends to add approximately one million new subscribers to its customers’ base in the country in 2012. The operator had 20.5 million active subscribers at the end of November 2011 (with 48,000 new additions in the reviewed month) and expects to hit 20.6-20.7 million service users by the end of this year. The registered customer base places Tele2 as the fourth mobile operator in the country based on subscriptions.

This year Tele2 Russia won operating licenses for provision of GSM telephony services in six new regions of Russia, in particular in Far East, and the expansion of its network in 2012 will drive the subscribers’ growth.
The operator also promotes an idea of technical neutrality in Russia which will allow Tele2 launching LTE networks in the frequency band of 1,800 MHz. Russian authorities are expected to take this decision by the end of this year.
Tele2 has 34 million subscribers worldwide, operating in 11 countries. The operator has been present in Russia since 2003, and currently controls 17 regional telecom providers in the country.
