Mail.ru more profitable than Google or Rambler

The South African media holding, Naspers, owning 33% of the share capital in Mail.ru, posted the financial results of the web portal for the years 2006-2008 in connection with a planned IPO, reported Kommersant.
The earnings before income tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) margin of Mail.ru amounted to 64.5% in 2007, which is a better result than Google’s 35.9% and Rambler’s 11%. In 2007 the portal saw increase in its revenues by 90% to €35.4m. Media advertising brought Mail.ru about 68% of all income, contextual ads, 14% and partnership projects the remaining 18%.
As the report claims, the monthly audience of the site is 52m unique visitors while the e-mail customer base is 41m.
The shareholders of Mail.ru (Naspers, a private Russian investor and an American company) held talks with Citibank, Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse in May on placing the stock on the London Stock Exchange.
