MTS and MySpace announce partnership

2008-07-16

Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), the major Russian mobile phone operator, revealed a partnership with MySpace Russia to promote MySpace services for subscribers of MTS in the country.
The popular social network and the provider will develop a WAP portal for the subscribers of the MTS network. In addition, the companies are planning to launch an MTS-branded community on the MySpace Russia website to increase its popularity. The service development manager of MTS, Pavel Roytberg, claims this partnership will fit well into the strategy of providing over 60m network users of Russia’s MTS with Web 2.0 and social networking capabilities. The new service from MySpace will allow the provider to try innovative marketing tools, such as viral marketing.
MTS is the leader in value-added services (VAS) in Russia, with a 32% market share of VAS and a 43.2% share of mobile content revenues in Q1 2008, according to research of ComNews.
Together with its subsidiaries, Mobile TeleSystems serves over 86m subscribers in Russia and the CIS countries
